The day Mom left to come home, we dropped her off at Kona Airport and went in search of a beach and/or a snorkeling area. We headed north from Kona toward the Kohala area. Since it was mid-day Saturday, most of the areas we checked out were already fairly crowded with locals, and we wanted to avoid crowds. There is a great snorkeling area called Puako, but the water was too rough. It was disappointing as we could see lots of turtles just steps into the water. The Puako area reminded us of Kauai, nice little mellow neighborhood. We ended up at the Four Seasons where there is public beach access. And turtles. And a bar.
